I am the District Councillor for the Ward of Ludford, which includes the parishes of Asterby, Benniworth, Burgh on Bain, Donington On Bain, Gayton Le Wold, Goulceby, Hainton, Ludford, Market Stainton, Ranby, Scamblesby, Sotby, South Willingham and Stenigot.
Some examples of the work I have been actively involved in include:
- Drawing money in to enable refurbishment of community facilities at Donington, Ludford, South Willingham and Scamblesby.
- I had a successful result getting a speed limit through Burgh on Bain, a campaign that had been going on for years and years.
- As an Independent I have been able to generate support from all sides, an example of this was my motion on notice to East Lindsey District Council regarding Ludford Primary School which in short objected to the closing of Ludford and any other school in East Lindsey until all matters and implications have been considered. We won 28 to 19 despite the ruling Conservatives whipped in to oppose whatever. Regrettably after all the very hard work by the community of Ludford and working with Independent councillors at the County Council, pursuit of all options and totally exhausting every single option to stop the process the large majority Conservative controlled County Council implemented closure which was in line with their strategy of closing 5% of primary schools and in direct contradiction of legislation which states “there is a presumption against the closure of rural primary schools”. This being of course a very good example of how large majority government at local level runs rough shod over local communities.
- Recently I presented a motion on notice at the District Council which enabled an eleventh hour stay of execution as to the demolition of Horncastle Town Hall, the outcome of which was to scrutinise all the paperwork, decision process, executive board position, business plans, land values, ward member views and options not considered in detail beforehand. The very hard and detailed work of Horncastle Town Council and the Stanhope Hall committee and the community of Horncastle was able to continue despite imposed tight deadlines and after more scrutiny and the matter being referred to Full Council the Town Hall is to be handed over to the people of Horncastle. This being a good example of how a hung council enables greater consideration and challenge to decisions, strategy and policy and above all ensures accountability and the reflection of the communities opinion.
