Flood Issues
My work to date on this serious issue

East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) undertook an in depth scrutiny in to the authorities reaction and performance during the course of and following events in 2007.  I took part in that scrutiny and also the formulation and presenting of evidence and recommendations to the Pitt Report consultation and indeed presented some of the scrutiny recommendations to Sir Michael Pitt in person.  Click here for more information.

ELDC was very pro-active in engaging stakeholders to identify issues and concerns and set about solutions where achievable. Much work has been done and more to do. Currently ELDC is pro-actively engaged in shoreline management plans and partnerships covering the Humber Estuary and the Wash Estuary and also the sub regional coastal study which covers Boston Borough Council, South Holland District Council and East Lindsey District Council which will determine the extent and location of any development along the coastal strip.

Inland surface water flooding particularly off farmland was and continues to be an area of concern particularly with the towns of Horncastle and Louth. Water coming off the Lincolnshire Wolds onto the Marshes and Fens coupled with coastal seawater level variances creates major water management issues for the partnerships of the Environment Agency, the various drainage boards and the Local Authorities. We need to be sure that the Local Development Framework and indeed current development control is reflecting and indeed implementing that laid out in the Floods and Water Bill.

Read about the new flood defence schemes for Louth and Horncastle.

Read about the 'Flood and Water Management Act 2010', which will implement several key recommendations of Sir Michael Pitt’s Review of the Summer 2007 floods (see above).
